Well, it’s finally that time. It’s time for a vacation.
Julia and I couldn’t be more excited to be heading to Seattle in the morning. Well, we’d be more excited if we didn’t have to get up at 4am, but oh well.
I’ve always wanted to visit Seattle, but I’m especially excited about this trip, because we’ll be visiting four wonderful friends from RISD. They are all artists, and I’d like to introduce them to you. Please find links to their websites below.

Tom Deslongchamp is an animator with an amazing sense of humor. His wife, Jessica Phoenix, is an illustrator. You’ve probably bought some of the things she’s made not realizing it.
Saturday, we’ll be joined by the great craftsman and designer, Joel Wakeman. His wife, Miranda, takes all of the beautiful photographs you see on Joel’s site.
I’ll be posting another project later this week, but other than that, it will be quiet around here. If you’d like to keep up with my travels you can follow me on Twitter and/or Flickr.
I had this made for my wife as an anniversary gift.
Also, another reminder that I really need a new camera. Sorry for the bad photo.

You can have your art/design printed on an iPhone case, too. I had the box in hand within a few days of ordering it, and the package it comes in is super slick. They really have a nice thing going.

Here’s another one from last night’s collage party.
If you’d like to project a story on to this one I’d like to hear it. Feel free to add your commentary in the comments.

These aren’t glued down, yet. I might use the pieces for something else, but I had this set up and the light was hitting just perfectly so I snapped a photo of it from my phone.
I would shoot a better photo of it, but I lost my camera a few months ago, and have yet to replace it. For now, I hope you enjoy this.

I can’t think of a recent collage that didn’t start with paper and a knife. All of my work at least begins with a paper collage, even my wallpapers.
For instance, below is a photo taken by my phone of what the March wallpaper looked like before I scanned it and cleaned it up in Photoshop.

Can you believe it’s March already? Better yet, can you believe I started making these monthly wallpapers 2 years ago next month, and the only one I’ve missed was December?
It’s been a fun exercise for me, and I only hope that you have been able to enjoy them. Thank you to all of the folks who have commented to let me know you look forward to them each month, and thank you for sharing them on Twitter, Facebook, and your blogs. I greatly appreciate all of it.

Below are the links to the last monthly wallpaper I’ll be doing. I have plans for some more fun things around here, but it’s about time to change up the format. All I can say at this point is save your pennies. ;)

On Friday, the good folks I work with and I celebrated the launch of our new campaign for Nationwide Insurance.
I was hired on in late August to work on the campaign, and it is most definitely the biggest thing I have been a part of.

Since the launch, I’ve done some searches on Twitter to see what folks are saying about the campaign, and it’s been positive for the most part. (If you haven’t seen any of the campaign, please do check it out; it’s quite funny.) The negative responses are so ridiculous that they are difficult to even take seriously. For instance, how can a campaign that is only 3 days old be ‘overplayed’? One person even demanded Nationwide fire their agency! And, of course, there is the common “The new ____ is a total #FAIL” tweet here and there.
What surprised me was not that there were negative responses, but that I didn’t care about them. I think the big differentiator is that most negative tweets are not true criticism. They are idiocy. People feel the need to discredit others’ work to make themselves appear as experts.
There was an enormous amount of effort put into the campaign, and it would take more than a glance at it online to discredit it in less than 140 characters. And although I have always enjoyed commercials and ads, I never thought I’d actually be in advertising. Now that I am, I can’t believe that this is the campaign that I get to work on.

Below is a collage I made for my wife as a Valentine’s Day gift, and I’m quite pleased with how it turned out.
Everything seemed to line up just right. Since this is all cut paper, there was no turning back if I cut something wrong. It’s not easy to cut these shapes exactly where you want them, and since I normally stick with cutting figures out, it was a much different process for me. I hope to experiment with this further.

I made this collage for a co-worker for Valentine’s Day.
My wife organized a Valentine’s gift exchange for the finished art department at McKinney this year. (Yes, we work at the same place, in the same department.) I was quite pleased with this simple piece of an anteater(?) vacuuming up some floating letters.
