what chorus shall i conduct?
whose hole am i to dig?
i am the ostrich
when you seek flight
salted water

mule

your whisper.
i am not sure if i have heard it lately. you used to repeat
soft-speech to me endlessly. i may not have been
as silent as the past has held me. there,

the remedy

kitten-giggle, her fingers
stuck together
sap from the pines
needles draw our path
natives can do
this invisibly
fires under clear sky
two-stick zippo
sinew and our hearts
