saint juilia

hello there,
it is St. Patrick’s Day. i worked at the firehouse today. {the home of a Rhode Island School of Design professor, Jean Blackburn. I work as her studio assistant, and also on the old woodwork} I thought all day about my first real entry on this blog. Now that I have gone all day without a shower, gone to dinner with friends out in Bristol, and driving out to North Attleboro, MA I really don’t remember it all. I was thinking about Mairead Byrne, and her methodic poems hurrying through her lips in a way only an Irish women could recite. I was imaging a beach in southern California that my lovely wife, Julia and I could live next to some day. We would meet up after work, and light a candle on the beach. Sip some merlot, and get wet. I was thinking about spending the days wages on a comfortable pair of shoes that I could get saltwater on at Prudence Island, but not feel guilty about it, because there would be another days wages for a clean pair of shoes for all the other days that I am not at Prudence Island. Then, I thought that it might be nice to skip the whole blog thing altogether, and slam away a few lines on my typewriter, but then I remembered that it was Saint Patrick’s Day, and that Julia had the car, and I wouldn’t be able to drive to the shoe-store, and that we had to go to the ISB Gallery for an opening, but I would get a cup wine even though it ended up being Pabst, and the shoes would have to make it another day. After all of this, I was led to just go with the first idea, and write on the blog with the computer hoping for a bit of inspiration from the muse.
I did write a poem today while I was in the ol’ firehouse basement alone with the cats and a tube of sub-floor adhesive. I named it “Art School”. It goes like this: it’s a toilet, and no-one has flushed.
I seemed to be a bit cynical from the fumes {maybe}. But anyhow, I was thinking. This is important in a time when- I don’t know. It just seems that people are not thinking as much as I used think people thought.
But this being my first real blog entry and all, I hope that it sparks a long spree of writing. I will tell you now, before you are disappointed, that this blog is just a place for me to write during the day. It may not be interesting. This is assuming you are reading it.
Blessings to you and your family,

-Able
