willow weep

how shall we measure our love?
by the whiteness of a dove?
or the size of tree she rests on?

what makes the willows weep, and
is it the tears that let it live long?

much of speech is in the tongue,
but that’s not where
communication comes from
the sun sets, but the day’s not done

our eyes cry, but the heart aches
the queen has rank
but there’s strength in the pawn

the chief is held high
but finds inspiration
in the tom-tom

is rhythm found in the hollow of a drum?
where does the beat come from?

where does the beat come from?
what came first, the dance or the song?

without an instrument an musician longs
and soon he’ll make one
and when he’s done
some will sing a long
to bring redemption
singing, “we won’t quit till’ it comes”

life is just as much in the root
as it is the leaf

a spoon is useless without a mouth to feed
how can a train be helpful unless it leaves?

how does a dreamer exist without a heart to tease?
the tallest of trees comes from a sprouted seed

faith comes when you can’t see to believe
a child not loved is an orchestra without strings

just like when
a flower does not exist without a stem
a poet will write without a pen
he words dry up if he does not share them

if they are strong he will share them again
and again and again and again

only when man finds silence does she find herself
when she has given it all away she finds wealth

passion wells up from the feet up and does not give up
a dreamer belongs in the treetop

when we stop to see beyond you
and me we have common-thought

a snare is placed and you are caught
let’s not let this happen
let’s begin to dream again
let’s go out past the hill’s in the horizon!
