Typographic Movie Posters

My wife and I decided to rent a documentary the other night, and instead of going to the rental store with no ideas, I decided to make a list from some quick online research. I think I Googled “Best Documentary” or something. Typical.

I came across a friendly forum where folks were discussing their favorites, and I jotted them down as they appealed to me. I figured I could read the backs of the covers if thy were even in stock at the store. (And they have an amazing selection at Vis Art!) When I read Julia the list, I made a quick one or two line illustration of the titles. I thought these were nifty, and maybe worth a bit more time. Below is my original sketch, and some quick digital sketches. All movies I still have not seen.

Keep in mind these are only rough drafts of sketches.

Some great concepts. Reduction is a great challenge.

Thanks, Sundry. Your work is great! I’ve been wanting to take my collage to the streets, and you’ve inspired me.
