A few weeks ago I asked if anyone on Twitter would like to have a mix CD swap, and got instant takers. I limited it to 10 peeps (11 including me), and I am still looking forward to listening to the contributions.
It’s not easy making a mix for people you don’t really know so I made a driving mix. It might not be one that will be listened to over and over, but when you’re on that long stretch of road in the middle of the night, and you need something to keep you between the lines this mix will do the trick. Here’s a look at the packaging:

As you can see, I had a lot of fun with the packaging. I used color photographs from an oversized book to make a folder for the CD and playlist. To add some contrast in materials, I printed the playlist on some rough, brownish pages from another oversized book. I made a stencil that says, “#mixcd10″ (the tag I gave it on Twitter so contributors could keep track of the project) which I applied to the cover and the CD itself.

I’ve been trying to use Twitter to connect with people in real ways. Mostly, I’ve mailed postcards to people who have kindly given me a mailing address. It’s been great, and I hope to continue finding ways to involve more people so follow me on Twitter, and get involved when the next project comes along.
I’ll post some images of the mailart I’ve sent out recently, too. For now you can view the front and back of each #mixcd10 package at my portfolio site. Apologies to the contributors who have not received thier mix yet. This post surely ruins the surprise.

You’re a beast. I hope mine turns out half as great as your. I just got my first two mixes in the mail yesterday. One of them was packed full of confetti, and my wife thought it was fan mail for me. HAHAHA! I hope this weekend I can devote some time to cranking this thing out. This has definitely inspired me.
Haven’t finished it, yet? ruh-roh. ;)
Looking forward to it!
How creative. What did you use to make the CD cases? Old photographs?
