You’re Doomed, Said the Bird

We had a fantastic little collage party at our apartment yesterday. Here’s one of the three I finished.

We Love Typography

I really need to get better at announcing things here.
Thanks to Johno’s kind invitation, I’ve been contributing to We Love Typography now for months. (You may have noticed my recent WLT contributions in the sidebar.) I can’t keep up with Stewf or Paul D. Hunt, though. Those guys post a lot of great stuff. And, [...]

Name Basic CD Cover

I’ve been working with Atlanta-based emcee, Name Basic, for a few years now.
I designed his logo back when I was operating as the Office of studioQ. I’ve never published anything on that process, but it was a lot of fun. There were many iterations, and when we decided on a final logo I made a [...]

Trust

Here’s a spread from an old sketchbook that I don’t think I’ve ever shared before.
It’s one of the few times white Letraset letters worked in my favor. I like how the two pages interact with each other, and I’m reminded of how well a little acrylic paint helps tie different sections together.

A Reminder To Play

One of the postcards I sent recently was to Jos Buivenga. You may know him as @exlibris on Twitter or as the designer of the almost ubiquitous semi-slab serif font, Museo.
I love Museo, as well as the rest of his fonts, and I have been using them for years. When I had a small graphic [...]

We Sunk the Treasure

It’s almost moving day around here, but I wanted to take a minute to post a couple of recent sketchbook pages.
The black and white shapes in the maze-looking collage are letters from a typeface printed for titles in a book that I cut up to reassemble. You can still see a “D, S, B, M, [...]

Handmade Mix CD Package and Mailart

A few weeks ago I asked if anyone on Twitter would like to have a mix CD swap, and got instant takers. I limited it to 10 peeps (11 including me), and I am still looking forward to listening to the contributions.
It’s not easy making a mix for people you don’t really know so I [...]

May Desktop Wallpaper

This month’s wallpaper was created hi-res, although I have not printed it, yet. But, I am ahead of schedule!
It will most likely be quiet around here for a while. I am working on creating a tutorial about my collage process that will be published this Fall in a book about hand-made graphics. I’m also working [...]

April Desktop Wallpaper

Okay folks, here it is. The April 2009 desktop wallpaper. A bit late, I’m sorry. Was busy with secret pranks. hehe
In the past I’ve created these wallpapers at a low resolution. No more! I will actually be able to print them out from now on. Which is good since I am working on putting together [...]

Movers and Shakers Desktop Wallpaper

Today my wife and I celebrate our seventh wedding anniversary. To commemorate the day, I thought I’d make a desktop wallpaper incorporating part of one of Julia’s favorite poems.
You may recognize it from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. It’s, in fact, a poem by Arthur O’Shaughnessy. I hope I did it a bit of [...]
